A proficiency is an exam administered by Testing Services that will allow you to "test out" of a course. Please see list of exams available here. They can be either oral or written exams.
There is a $25 examination fee, per proficiency exam. This is nonrefundable.
To apply for a proficiency examination please contact Testing Services by calling (567) 661-8378 or by stopping into one of the Testing Centers on the Findlay and Toledo campuses. A Testing Specialist will determine a student's eligibility for a proficiency exam. Once eligibility has been determined, a student can pay online here or retrieve the Application for Examination from Testing Services and place the form along with payment in the Student Accounts payment drop box. All payments are non-refundable.
After a payment has been received and processed, a Testing Specialist will call to schedule your examination.
Your exam will be administered in the Testing Center, in either Toledo or Findlay. You choose the location on the application.
Grading time varies by test. All test information is immediately sent to the respective department for grading. Since other offices grade the exam, the turnaround time varies. We do not know when the results will be returned to our office. Students will receive notification of test results in their Owens Community College email account.
You must present a valid, photo ID. Some proficiency exams allow you to use a calculator. All other items must be placed into a locker, which we will provide. Please familiarize yourself with the rules of the Testing Center prior to your arrival.
