Owens’ Surgical Technology Department faculty members are prepared and willing to help you begin a successful career that will lead you to become a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician.

You will master decontamination, preparing and packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments as well as how to apply this knowledge in your own practice.

Where our Graduates Work

Our certificate will provide a strong education based on practices that will prepare you for an entry-level position as a sterile processing technician in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare agencies where Sterile processing of instruments and supplies is needed.

Owens Community College provides you with the skills to successfully qualify for full-time and part-time positions in:

Certificate Details

The Sterile Processing certificate provides you with 180 hours of hands-on field experience.

You will gain a background in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as applied to the human body and the health population as a whole.

Upon completion of the Sterile Processing certificate, you will have a strong knowledge base and numerous hours of hands-on experience in sterile processing.

You will also be educated on and encouraged to take the national sterile processing certification exam, such as the Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician.

NOTE: To be admitted to the Sterile Processing certificate you must first apply to the College and then (after being admitted to Owens) apply to the Sterile Processing certificate.
