The recipient of this award showcases initiative, perseverance and proficiency in conquering challenges on the path to their degree while also fostering collaboration and maintaining professional communication with peers.

Caressa Evans’s life changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. When she was diagnosed with the virus, she decided she needed a change in her life. Evans had no medical background but thought she would give it a try. She found the health information technology program at Owens and realized it was a perfect fit. “I have never attended a school where I felt that instructors actually cared about your success,” she said.

Evans is spending her summer studying for the Registered Health Information Technician exam. She will pursue her bachelor’s in Health Information Management at the University of Cincinnati this fall.

HIT Peer Award – Alison Rosenogle

The recipient of this award demonstrations dedication to the HIT profession through joining the professional organizations and being an advocate of the profession through educating others of the profession and displays enthusiasm and support to fellow students through teamwork and assistance.

Alison Rosenogle originally was waiting for a seat in the sonography program. When she saw a seat in HIT, she jumped in not knowing what the program was about. Her first course in the program was taught by Teresa McGaharan. From that moment, Rosenogle was hooked. “Teresa’s teaching style and the way she explained everything so that we all could understand had me hooked,” she said.

Rosenogle is enjoying her summer off. She is also exploring her options to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
