Owens Community College provides an educational environment for students at all stages of life. Sara Rodriguez, this year’s Dental Hygiene Outstanding Graduate, has been able to further her career by returning to school.

Rodriguez, a 2009 Start High School graduate, worked as a dental assistant for nearly 10 years before deciding she wanted to return to school. “I wanted to move forward in my dental career and this was the next step for me,” she said. She found Owens was the most accommodating for her schedule while working and taking classes.

Once in the dental hygiene program, Rodriguez saw how impactful the program was on her life. “Every instructor that I came in contact with has been very helpful and encouraging and they go out of their way to make sure you succeed,” she said. Rodriguez was also the vice president and president of the American Dental Hygienist’s Association, a student member of the dental hygiene advisory committee, Phi Theta Kappa and a member of the service scholar program.

Rodriguez will continue to work as a dental hygienist at her current dental office. She plans to continue her education in the future.
