Our lives can take us on many roads. For some, those roads lead us back home. For Peyton Hull, this year’s Occupational Therapy Assistant, she returned home to pursue her degree.

Hull, a 2012 Start High School graduate, spent the past few years traveling and working. She was living in Colorado when she began to contemplate moving back to Toledo to finish school. When looking for career options, occupational therapy assistant (OTA) checked all the boxes. “I was drawn to the field because I felt an innate desire to help others lead fulfilling and independent lives,” she said. Hull enrolled at Owens after a friend who graduated from the program told her how great the educators and program was for her.

Once Hull was on campus, she found her friend’s recommendation to be accurate. “The teachers are committed to every student’s educational journey and are willing to try various approaches,” she said. The faculty constantly rooting for her success helped keep her motivated throughout her studies. “Without the individualized support and care, both during my pre-requisite classes and within my program, I don’t think I would have made it without them cheering me on.”

Hull is studying to take her National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy exam. She hopes to work as a certified occupational therapist assistant at a skilled nursing facility or outpatient hospital.
