The connections many students are able to make with their instructors while at Owens can lead to success in their education and future career. Hannah Beard, this year’s Outstanding Surgical Technology Graduate, was motivated to be her best by her instructors.

After graduating from Napoleon High School in 2020, Beard came to Owens to complete her pre-requisites in health care. She knew she wanted to work in the medical field but never knew exactly what she wanted to do. “I did my research on surgical technology and realized that this was it,” she said.

As Beard continued her surgical technology education, she found the instructors to be a vital part of her success. “They are motivating, knowledgeable and only want what is best for us,” she said. “They set us up for success and I appreciate everything they have done!”

While at Owens, Beard was also a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists National Honor Society.

Beard will continue to work at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree in the future.
