In our lives, we will be faced with the challenge of finding the right balance. For Kelsey Clemence, a recipient of the Barbara Rood Student Choice Award in nursing, she was able to find the right school-work-life balance at Owens.

As a mother and working full time, Clemence found Owens was the right choice for her because of the flexibility. She was able to take classes that work with her schedule and still be able to work through the program. “The nursing program at Owens is one of the best and truly prepares you for the nursing field,” Clemence said.

Clemence, a first-generation student, graduated from Maumee High School in 2010. Since then, she has worked in healthcare but has always wanted to be more involved in patient care. “I really enjoy taking care of people and being there for them in a time where they are most vulnerable,” she said. “Nursing is such a rewarding field to know that you can make such a difference in someone’s life.”

Clemence has accepted a nurse residency position at ProMedica in the Labor & Delivery Department. She also plans to continue her education and pursue her bachelor’s degree.
