How Did I Get Here-2022-23

A Career in Audio Engineering Demystified
Nov 9 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

In this session, Amber will share her recent 13-year journey into a career in music and audio engineering. The journey started with going back to taking piano, theory, and voice lessons in 2009.

She then went on to compose music and went to school for audio certification and music theory classes. The result? She is now running two recording studios, building a certification school, has four interns and provides community internships through a local college.

Amber will share her unique journey into this industry and talk about the passion and purpose necessary to embrace what you love and make it a career. She will also talk about her personal motivation, drive, and commitment to juggle a music tech/recording school, as well as how to maintain a professional studio and live sound engineering gigs.

About the presenter: Amber Flynn is the Recording Studio Manager for Leading Note Studios – Encinitas & San Marcos, CA

With a vast knowledge of systems, Amber Flynn takes the recording and demystifies it so students and performers alike can have a pleasant recording experience from start to finish. A true example of a lifelong learner, she started studying music at a young age and continues to take lessons in piano, drums, guitar, sitar and voice. Amber brings her knowledge and experience as a student of music, composer, and recording artist to the engineering process, providing an atmosphere where students can learn engineering with both technique and musicianship.

Amber is certified in both Pro Tools and Sibelius, and recently completed the Avid Certified Instructor training to certify others in Pro Tools. She is currently part of the Avid Learning Partner program and building a certification school in San Marcos California. She runs 2 recording studios (Encinitas & San Marcos CA) where LNS students or external patrons can record quality projects. Unlike any other studio experience, recording at LNS with Amber proves to be stress-free, relaxed, and fun. While in session, she is completely dedicated to your project.

Furthering help within the community she has started a collaborative intern program for audio students at Mira Costa College in San Marcos and is currently teaching and mentoring four interns at Leading Note Studios.

Since building the recording studio in 2015, numerous projects have been recorded, including several band albums, original student albums, commercials, many TV show voice-overs, audiobooks, and more! At any given time, Amber is working on her own original projects, several leading note projects, outside projects and also offers a free recording to the LNS Student of the Month.
