First Generation College Student Day is celebrated nationally on November 8. November 8 was chosen to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. HEA was intended to help level a playing field that for too long had been weighed against Americans from minority and low-income backgrounds.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has caused quite a buzz this year. On the one hand, we have doomsayers on street corners heralding it as the end of human creativity and expression, while on the other hand, we have those rejoicing at the boundless possibilities that come with artificial intelligence. Join James for a deep dive on the challenges of machine learning, the implications it has on humanity, and how artificial intelligence may be used to our benefit.
James Zeller is the Student Life Coordinator and responsible for the various activities across both Owens campuses. James holds degrees in the fields of Philosophy and Religious Studies, where he has previously been interested in subjects ranging from mysticism and consciousness studies to epistemology and linguistics. His eclectic nature is further exacerbated by his interests in meditation, symbolism, esotericism, and Dungeons and Dragons. He lives in a hovel with his wife, daughter, and loving cat named Stella.

Join us for the Express Partners Faculty Art Show Opening Reception from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 8 in the Walter E. Terhune Gallery. This is a joint art show with our transfer partners visual arts faculty. Feuding theatre critics Moon and Birdboot are swept into the ‘whodunit’ they are viewing. It is a hilarious spoof of Agatha Christie-like melodramas. As mists rise about isolated Muldoon Manor, Moon and Birdboot become dangerously implicated in the lethal activities of an escaped madman.
