Beyond the Call

The Center for Emergency Preparedness prepares new public safety professionals for duty offering relevant associate degrees as well as technical and short-term certificates.

The center also serves existing public and private safety professionals with advanced continuing education and “train the trainer” education opportunities bolstered with realistic, scenario-based training.

Our facility offers a Training and Operations Center High Bay with Emergency Service Virtual Training System, Mock City and New SWAT House, 5-story Burn Tower, Rail Car (Hazmat Training), Confined Space Rescue Simulator and a Fleet of Law Enforcement Vehicles, Fire Trucks & Ambulances.

Whether recent graduates or seasoned professionals, the individuals who train at the Center for Emergency Preparedness are ready to serve their communities.

Our Partnerships

Toledo Fire and Rescue & Toledo Police – house their training academies at Owens. Toledo Fire Academy opened on Campus in 1999 and Toledo Police Academy started in 1985.

Ohio Basic Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) – founded at Owens in 1970 in cooperation with the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission (OPOTC) and certified by the State of Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) – The Center for Emergency Preparedness is part of the State of Ohio’s Close to Home regional advanced training program for current law enforcement professionals.
