Training Program Description

The Forklift Operator safety program trains participants on issues related to the OSHA guidelines for powered industrial trucks. The program covers forklift design, parts, operation, special driving rules, and maintenance requirements. The training incorporates demonstration of forklift operation as well as hands-on practice for the participants.

  • Seatbelt regulation and enforcement
  • Forklift operation, warnings, and precautions
  • Truck controls and instrumentation
  • Engine or motor operation
  • Steering and maneuvering
  • Visibility
  • Fork and attachment adaptation, operation and use limitations
  • Vehicle capacity and stability
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance
  • Refueling and recharging of batteries
  • Operating limitations
  • Surface conditions for vehicle operation
  • Composition of loads and load stability
  • Load manipulation, stacking, and unstacking
  • Pedestrian traffic
  • Narrow aisles and other restricted places where the vehicle will be operated
  • Hazardous locations, e.g. flammable areas
  • Ramps and other sloped surfaces
  • Closed environments and areas of poor ventilation - carbon monoxide, buildup of fumes
  • Other potentially hazardous environmental conditions
  • Re-evaluation guidelines/refresher training
