Dr. Renay Scott was appointed Vice Provost in 2009. In this position, she oversees the School of Health Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences and the Library. Previous to this appointment, Dr. Scott served as the Dean, School of Arts and Sciences since 2006. Prior to joining Owens, Dr. Scott served as Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development at Central Michigan University.
Her professional scholarship includes publication of a middle school simulation on the American Revolution, a chapter on the adolescent learner in the book Society and Instructional Practice, and an author on numerous articles and presentations. Her research interests include social studies instruction, history education, and assessment. Scott remains active in a number of professional organizations in the areas of social studies and middle level education. Scott also serves as an assessment mentor for the Higher Learner Commission.
Dr. Scott received a bachelor's degree in secondary social studies education from Calvin College and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Michigan State University and earned a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction from Wayne State University.
