Position Descriptions

Below is a description for each Student Government position. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

  • President: The President shall serve as the primary spokesperson for the representatives of the Owens Community College Student Government and the student body. The President will chair Student Government meetings and be primarily responsible for all Owens Community College Student Government directives. The President will ensure proper student representation on College committees will sit on the College President’s Cabinet and meet weekly with the Dean of Student Life. The President will maintain professional relationships with the administration and the faculty. The President will have the power to call emergency meetings of the student government with adequate notices, delegate tasks as needed to the Student Government members and shall be authorized to conduct the business of Student Government between academic semesters or in an emergency as authorized by the Dean of Student Life with the exception of authorizing expenses over $250. The President will report weekly during Student Government meetings for anything their position has been responsible for since the last meeting. The President will assist in maintaining Owens Community College Student Government social media sites and will serve at least 10 service hours per month. The President will only have voting power in the event of a tie.
  • Vice President: The Vice President shall fulfill the duties of the President in the absence of the President, assist the President in the executions of their duties and become the President in the absence or removal of the President. The Vice President is responsible for serving as a liaison between the Registered Student Organizations and Student Government, will serve as the Chair for the Advocacy Committee, and will assist in College committee’s representation as determined by the President. The Vice President will report weekly during Student Government meetings for anything their position has been responsible for since the last meeting. The Vice President will assist in maintaining Owens Community College Student Government social media sites and will serve at least 10 service hours per month. The Vice President will have one vote unless assuming the powers of the President.
  • Secretary: The Secretary shall be the primary administrative person for the Owens Community College Student Government. The Secretary will be required to conduct roll call at the beginning of each Student Government meeting, maintain a permanent record of attendance of members, keep records of all actions taken by members of the Student Government, record and track meeting minutes for all official and emergency Student Government meetings, keep ongoing record of meeting minutes for all official and emergency Student Government meetings, track attendance at Student Government sponsored events, maintain an ongoing record of Student Government events, coordinate survey distribution and survey data collection, distribute accurate copies of the constitution and by-laws to each member of Student Government, coordinate all College announcements, make approved amendments to the constitution, and will be familiar with operating procedures during the meetings. The Secretary will report weekly during Student Government meetings for anything their position has been responsible for since the last meeting. The Secretary will assist in maintaining Owens Community College Student Government social media sites and will serve at least 10 service hours per month. The Secretary will have one vote.
  • Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be the chief financial officer for the Owens Community College Student Government. The Treasurer will maintain permanent financial records and give a financial report of Student Government expenditures at every Student Government meeting. The Treasurer will also serve as the Chair of the Student Government Finance Committee and will give a monthly report of the Student Government Finance Committee at a Student Government meeting. The treasurer will also work directly with the Student Government advisor(s) in preparing all financial reports. The Treasurer will assist in maintaining Owens Community College Student Government social media sites and will serve at least 10 service hours per month. The Treasurer will have one vote.
  • Historian: The Historian is responsible for making sure that Student Government develops a strong historical foundation for the organization. He or she will record, photograph, and archive important records to develop this foundation. The Historian shall have one vote.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for reaching out to the Owens Community (inside and outside of the college) to gather volunteers for events and Student Government happenings. The Volunteer Coordinator will have one vote.
  • Non-Traditional Student Representative: The Non-Traditional student position must be a minimum of 27 years old. This person will be responsible for focusing on concerns regarding non-traditional students as well as upholding the same responsibilities as an At-Large Representative.
  • Toledo Campus At-Large Representative: These 20 positions will be general representatives for the Toledo campus and will bring Toledo campus concerns to the Student Government. They will also be involved in various committees depending on the agenda Student Government sets up for the upcoming academic year. Each Toledo representative will have one vote.
  • Findlay Campus At-Large Representative: These 5 positions will be general representatives for the Findlay campus and will bring Findlay campus concerns to the Student Government. They will also also be involved in various committees depending on the agenda Student Government sets up for the upcoming academic year.
