Ceremony Dates

52nd Annual Spring Commencement
May 4, 2018

  • Doors open at 5 p.m.
  • Guests should plan to be seated no later than 6:15 p.m.
  • Ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.

Commencement is held twice each academic year at the Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area Campus. For your planning purposes, upcoming Commencement ceremonies are scheduled in advance.


Friday, May 4, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.

All students graduating are encouraged to attend the practice at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Student Health and Activities Center. You will learn where to line up, where you sit, how the processional works and more. The length of the practice will vary from ceremony to ceremony, depending how many graduates attend.

Academic Regalia

Caps, gowns, tassels and announcements are available to purchase from the College Bookstore.

Faculty members who want to rent a gown should contact Mary Jo Spring in the Bookstore at or Ext. 7307 no later than one month prior to the ceremony. Faculty members who want to purchase a gown should contact Jostens at 1-800-854-7464, Ext. 15092.

Guest Seating

Please note that even though tickets are not required, seating is limited in the Student Health and Activities Center. Chair seats are set up in theatre-seating style, but will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Using signs, tape and other means for the purpose of saving seats is not permitted. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Family and guests should plan to be seated no later than 6:15 p.m. When the academic procession begins, guest access will be restricted in some areas until the procession is concluded, so please be seated as early as possible. As a courtesy to others in attendance, please remain seated until the conclusion of the ceremony.

Additional seating will be available in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts in the Mainstage Theatre, where guests will be able to watch the ceremony on a movie screen. Family friendly seating will be available as well, located in the Audio/Visual Classroom Center (AVCC) Rooms 121-128. Perfect for families with infants and young children, this location will feature round tables with chairs and the ceremony streaming on large TV screens.

During the ceremony, as a courtesy to others, please turn off and refrain from using all mobile devices; electronic, hand-held games and similar items.

Family members and guests may take photos only from their own seat. For the safety and courtesy to all those in attendance, standing in the aisles is prohibited.

The College has contracted with Lifetouch to take professional photographs of all graduates as they walk across the stage and after they exit the stage. A free color proof will be mailed to each graduate whose address is made available, at no charge and no obligation to purchase. Lifetouch agrees to protect the privacy of graduates. Photographers will not sell or assign name and address information.
