This year’s BIG Read explores indigenous peoples and more specifically violence and violence against indigenous women. We are going to get involved by calling for public attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women because as the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center states, “it is more than an epidemic—instead is part of the spectrum of violence experienced by Native women.” The epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women is “attributed to the lack of legal protection as a result of” the relocation and assimilation of indigenous peoples years ago (National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center). We will call public attention to missing and murdered indigenous peoples by telling their stories in an art exhibit in the spring of 2024. To participate in this powerful exhibit, please email Jen at jennifer_hazel@owens.edu To have your class participate, please see the example The Face Of Exhibit Assignment Guidelines.
