Michael A. Sander joined the faculty at Owens Community College in 2000, where he currently serves as Associate Professor and Music Facilitator. He also serves as the percussion instructor/arranger for the Bowling Green State University Falcon Marching Band. Sander has been a private percussion instructor for more than 20 years and has performed as a freelance musician with numerous symphony orchestras and theatre companies throughout Texas, Michigan, and Ohio. He can be heard on several recordings under the Gasparo label performing with the Southern Methodist University Meadows Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Orchestra. Sander completed undergraduate studies in music education at Bowling Green State University and received his master's degree in percussion performance from the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He has studied with Douglas Howard and Kalman Cherry of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Michael Rosen of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Roger Schupp of Bowling Green State University, and solo marimbist Drew Lang. Sander holds an educational endorsement with Vic Firth and performs on Marimba One marimbas, Bosphorus cymbals, and Black Swamp Percussion instruments.
